For Alpine Oasis cameraman and photographer Phil Coates, you could say that adventure is a way of life. He's clocked up more than 30 expeditions to date, with destinations including Everest, Makalu and Broad Peak - right now he's thawing out after a springtime trip to the Arctic - and his film credits include documentaries for the BBC, National Geographic TV, ITV and Discovery International. Phil has worked in some of the most challenging environments on the planet, filming in temperatures of up to (or down to!?) minus 48 degrees, where simply existing is a challenge - let alone documenting the experience!
He's also a qualified International Mountain Leader,
and, as the co-founder of Alpine Oasis, he's the brains behind our programme of climbing and trekking expeditions to the French Alps and Crete - Phil has devised and tested every route, sharing his love for the mountains with more than 250 happy customers at the latest count.

With all that adventuring experience, it's safe to say that he has a story or two to tell - and if you're in the London area on 25 June, you'll have the perfect chance to hear him. Phil will be joining a cast of nine fellow adventurers, explorers and madcap travellers at the Vue Theatre, Leicester Square, to share his tales as part of Alastair Humphreys' 'Night of Adventure' charity fundraising night.
Organised in support of Hope and Homes for Children, the Night of Adventure is a great chance to be entertained by some seriously inspiring explorers (including host and veteran adventurer Al Humphreys himself - his latest challenge was to row the Atlantic, and you can watch his short film here!) - and support a good cause at the same time. Each speaker will have just 20 slides to show, and will be limited to 20 seconds per slide - the organisers promise you'll be 'swept from adventure to adventure'! There'll be a charity auction thrown in too, with super prizes including a copy of Magic, Madness & Ultramarathon Running, the latest book by Alpine Oasis ultra running coach, Andy Mouncey.
